The United Methodist Men of Burnt Factory United Methodist Church meet every third Saturday at the church for a breakfast meeting at 8:00 am.
For decades the United Methodist Men have sponsored the Apple Butter Project as their principle fund raiser. On the second Saturday of every October apples are harvested, then cleaned and cut before going into cooking kettles at midnight of the following Saturday. As wisps of steam dance over gleaming copper kettles, heated by fire, church members, families and friends take turns stirring the apples with long wooden paddles. Set beside a quiet creek, down over the hill on the church property under our shelter, and against the black velvet of a cool October night, it is a vision for the cinema of your mind. By the time the sun has begun its early morning ascent, Burnt Factory apple butter, jarred in fellowship and hailed as the best by all who taste it – is ready for toast!
